Niki Cleary reporter, Tulalip Tribal member.
NorthWest Indian News takes an ‘in depth’ look at the history of the village site that had been occupied by the ancestors of the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe for more than 27 centuries. The Washington State Department of Transportation began construction to build replacement pontoons for the Hood Canal Bridge there, but uncovered the remains of more than 800 Klallams. The WSDOT stopped construction and the ancestral remains are now being protected from further exhumation.
